Livestock on the Farm
Keeping livestock at Zenger Farm is a community endeavor. Visiting youth help to move the chickens from one field to another, the Bee Group tends to bee needs, and beginning farmers tend a flock of turkeys from young poults until they are full-grown at Thanksgiving. By creating direct opportunities for shared ownership of farm livestock, Zenger Farm increases educational opportunities and diversifies farm income.
A diverse flock of laying hens is tended by the Zenger FarmEgg Cooperative, a group of community members who share in the care of the flock and the bounty of the eggs. For more information or to become a member of the Zenger Farm Egg Cooperative, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The honey bee hives at Zenger Farm are managed by a committee of Portland Urban Beekeepers(PUB). The PUB Zenger committee hosts work parties at Zenger Farm. Check the PUB calendar for upcoming work parties.
